Mudgeeraba Cubs Put Compassion into Action

Recently, Order of Malta Regional Hospitaller Danny Higgins had the privilege of visiting the Mudgeeraba Cub Scout Troop to speak with the young people about homelessness, disadvantage and some of the challenges people can face throughout their lives.

Danny was genuinely impressed by the Cubs’ understanding, empathy and thoughtful questions. Their compassion quickly moved from conversation to action, when troop leaders encouraged the young people to bring along dry goods that could be distributed to people in need who visit Philermos House, the new facility in Southport.

The response was extraordinary.

The troop collected more than seven full supermarket bags of essential items, including tinned tuna, instant noodles, baked beans, muesli bars and other pantry staples. These generous donations will help support people experiencing hardship who come to Philermos House seeking assistance.

This is a wonderful example of young people learning about disadvantage and then finding a practical way to make a difference.

The Hospitaller works of the Order of Malta are greatly strengthened by the generosity and commitment of community groups such as the Mudgeeraba Scouts, together with the ongoing support of the business community, including BNI Beachside.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Cubs, their leaders, families and everyone who contributed to this wonderful initiative.

Their generosity demonstrates how compassion, service and community spirit can make a real difference in the lives of others.
